What is the process after the birth mother has selected an adoptive family?
Depending on how comfortable the birth parents are with the adoptive family, they may invite the adoptive parents to come spend time with the baby at the hospital after birth. Before the child can be voluntarily placed for adoption, the birth parents must wait a designated amount of time. In Ohio, for example, this waiting period is 72 hours. During this time, the relationship between birth mother, adoptive parents and baby will be solidified. Once the child is placed, the visiting and contact plan established before placement will be followed and adapted as needs and expectations change. A Child's Waiting will be available through the entire process to offer answers and mediation.
