I'm concerned that my child's birth parent may become too involved. Will this be an issue?
As the adoptive parent, you have control as you discuss with the birth mother what you consider to be reasonable limits on letters, e-mails, calls, photos and visits. The birth mother carefully considered what type of home she would like to place her child in and is not interested in disturbing that family environment. Both parties enter an open adoption with the understanding that flexibility will be needed as trust is established and the child grows. If mediation is necessary, A Child's Waiting can help you find a good balance and determine what's in the child's best interest.
