Armstrong Adoption Story - How did we get here?
How did my husband and I decide that adoption was meant
for us? To say it was something we were called to
do is the simplest way to answer, but there is far more
to the story than that. We were actually touched by
several children and young adults that lead us to our decision. Did
we ever think this would be the route we would take? No;
had you asked us this question earlier the answer probably
would have been absolutely not. Why the change in
our thinking? Now, we both ask ourselves, why not
adopt? Our story is probably not your traditional
story, nevertheless his is our story as to how we got to
this point and how we feel that adoption will touch our
lives forever.
A few years ago, Mike and I had questioned whether or
not we would have children. Throughout our marriage
we had both felt that if it were meant to be, then it would
be. After over three years, we hadn’t had any
children and wanted to have a family. Many nights
we stayed up and discussed the pros and cons of fertility
treatments versus adoption. Our personal preference
was to adopt. As we were researching agencies, the
process and our options we were led towards international
adoption. Those plans were halted prior to completing
our application for any agency. Two adorable little
boys ages 3 and 4 had entered our lives and we felt that
they were the answer to our prayers. These two boys
were adopted from Russia and their parents were having
a hard time with each one of them so they spent a great
deal of time at Aunt Robin and Uncle Mike’s home. We
had the two of them several days a week and often times
for days on end. When the boys weren’t at home
we felt a sense of loss and greatly missed both of them. Today,
we still have both of them frequently and yet we are still
led to adopt
