A Child’s Waiting Adoption Program
offers numerous programs for those individuals
and couples who are interested in welcoming
a child into their lives. Some of the programs
have no fees while others do. Enclosed in
this informational packet is information
about each program, the children that are
waiting, and any applicable fees. This sheet
serves as a quick reference as to which program
your family may be interested.
Families hoping for….
Children as part of a sibling group
of four or more adopted at the same time
If your family is hoping to add four or more
children that are siblings to your family,
you would want to look at Programs I and
II. Children within these programs can
be any age although there tends to be older
children within the group. There is an enormous
need for families that will keep brothers and
sisters together. Your family will receive
a Medicaid card (in most cases) to cover medical
expenses, vision, dental, and any needed therapies.
Additionally, you will receive a monthly check
for each of them until they graduate from high
school to assist in the raising the child.
The only cost for this program will be that
of the homestudy. Fees are paid through taxpayer
dollars. When you adopt a large sibling group
out of foster care, you will get a refund of
the homestudy cost as well as the legal fees
associated with the adoption. For families
that may have a difficult time paying for homestudy
or legal fees up front, GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE
THROUGH A CHILD’S WAITING. Please call
the office and ask for an application to be
sent to you.
Children over the age of seven
If your family would like to add a child or
sibling group where all children are over the
age of seven to your family, you should be
considering Program I. These children
can come from anywhere in the United States.
In most situations, there are no fees for
the adoption. Fees are paid through taxpayer
dollars. At times, some states do not have
funding for adoption services and your family
would be asked to render payment for your services.
Your family may receive a Medicaid card (in
most cases) to cover medical expenses, vision,
dental, and any needed therapies. Additionally,
you will receive a monthly check for each of
them until they graduate from high school to
assist in the raising the child. Your family
would need to tell A Child’s Waiting
is you are interested in the State Funded Programs
(no cost) or if you’re open to family
funded situations. The Family Match Coordinator
at A Child’s Waiting would tell you if
any fees would be required before you are considered.
Children
from birth to three
If you are
hoping for a newborn or toddler, you should consider
Program II. These children are generally being
placed voluntarily by their birth parents and are
healthy. There are fees for the adoption as the state
system is not involved. Fees will vary based on the
service provided to the birth parent and the difficulty
for A Child’s Waiting to identify possible adoptive
families. There are no subsidies or Medicaid cards
available for these children. Birth parents are able
to pick the adoptive family for their children.
You have identified a situation on
your own with a Birth Mother
This is called a prearranged or identified
adoption. If the Birth Parent resides in Ohio,
A Child’s Waiting can provide ALL services
to the Birth Mother and to your family. If
the Birth Mother is outside of Ohio, ACW can
help coordinate all services if not being provided
or simply write the Ohio homestudy and help
get your child home through ICPC (which is
a required process for any child from another
state coming to live in Ohio).
Your family may be a part of more than one
program at a time as well to increase the number
of situations for which you are presented.
If your family is still unsure about which
program may be best, please call the office
and we will be glad to help!
