This program is designed for families who
reside in the State of Ohio who either need
A Childs' Waiting adoption agency to conduct a homestudy
for them or who have an approved Ohio homestudy
through another agency who would like to
transfer to ACW.
Following is a break-down of the numerous
programs offered by A Child's Waiting.
If you are interested in applying to A
Child's Waiting please complete a Preliminary
Application form and return it with any
applicable application fee, (non-refundable).
Fees are based on the program in which
you are interested.
Stated fees are subject to change.
Training and Education
All adoptive applicants in Ohio are required
to attend a pre-adoptive parent training. Trainings
are held every other month.
The training consists of 2 Friday evenings
and 2 Saturdays. The training includes
a variety of adoption related topics and
speakers, including different members of
the adoption triad, who share their adoption
experience. If an applicant attends training
elsewhere, A Child's Waiting must review
training certificates to determine if the
training meets agency requirements.
Homestudy
A Child's Waiting is able to complete
homestudies in an expeditious manner. The
homestudy is a state required assessment completed
by a certified adoption assessor. The process
involves the family working collaboratively with
the homestudy worker to assess the applicant's ability
to successfully parent an adoptive child or children.
The homestudy may require multiple visits to your
home. Once all the required documentation
has been returned from the applicants, and the assessor
has completed the homestudy, the family will be
asked to attend an approval meeting at our main
office, (unless family is at an excessive distance).
The homestudy is valid for 2 years from approval.
Families have the option to update their homestudy
every 2 years for a valid homestudy for a total
of six years. (A Child's Waiting reserves
the right to request additional documentation deemed
necessary, which may include consultation with a
medical and/or psychological professional).
